Community Events
The Highlands End-of-Life Project seeks to facilitate and encourage open dialogue about death within the local community. By focusing on increasing death literacy – our collective understanding and awareness of death and available options – we aim to enhance the community's understanding around death, help people feel more empowered to discuss and plan for death, and build community capacity.
Workshops, Events and Training
In 2024, we're hosting workshops, events and training across a range of areas on the topics of death and dying for the community.
We will publish details of upcoming events below and through social media. Please get in touch if you have suggestions for things you would like to see in your community.

Sustainable Deathcare New England
Come along to the Sustainable Deathcare New England group to connect with others and learn. This group is facilitated by Maxine Ross and is a meeting place to explore a sustainable and humanistic support network around death and dying. The Sustainable Deathcare New England group is affiliated with Sustainable Living Armidale.
Sustainable Deathcare New England runs Death Cafes for the community. Death Cafes involve group directed conversations about death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session. Death Cafes have spread quickly across Europe, North America and Australasia over the past 15 years. Their objective is 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'.
The next Death Cafe is:
Time: 10.30am
Date: 19 September 2024
Venue: Boobooks, 176 Beardy St, Armidale
